Post Election Reflections:
Covering the Campaign of 2010

A Conference for College Journalists

Washington, DC
November 5 - 6, 2010

OVERVIEW
The elections of 2010 will prove to be one of the most pivotal in decades. The future direction of the Obama Administration, the role and makeup of Congress, and critical policy questions will all hinge on what voters decide on Election Day. What better place than Washington, D.C. for young college journalists to gather and reflect and analyze the results of the elections?

Post Election Reflections: Covering the Campaign of 2010 will feature working journalists fresh off the campaign trail, seasoned political pundits and observers, along with veterans of the Washington Press Corps. We’ll explore topics such as:

  • Richard Benedetto, Founding Correspondent for USA Today, will lead a discussion on the proper role of a journalist .
    Campaign Overview: Winners & losers
  • On the Road with the Candidates: Journalists’ tales from the road
  • The New Political Landscape: What it all means for the President, Democrats & Republicans
  • Campaigns on Campus: How college journalists covered the elections
  • Campaign Press Operations: How candidates seek to influence the press
  • Press Report Card: How fair and balanced was the press coverage?
  • At the Heart of the Matter: From the economy to immigration, the issues that mattered to voters
  • Student Roundtable Discussion: What is the proper role of a journalist?
  • A Press Conference: A select group of students participate in a press conference with a real politician or pundit & will be graded by their peers!

The conference will begin at approximately 11:00am on Friday, November 5 and will conclude at 5:00pm on Saturday, November 6. Further details on the schedule will be posted as sessions and speakers are confirmed.

Fred Barnes, Executive Editor of The Weekly Standard, will offer his thoughts on the election results.
