IBGA students talk with Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) after the Congressional Scholarship Award Dinner
 |
As participants in IBGA, students are afforded once-in-a-lifetime
opportunities to meet dozens of high-profile and influential
leaders representing numerous industries and fields
of specialty. Through site briefings, small group gatherings,
the mentoring program, an awards dinner, and guest lecture
series, students leave with a personal “rolodex”
of contacts.
Student Network
Unlike other internship programs, students live and take classes together, allowing them to form special bonds and friendships that last long after the summer is over. Most alumni say that the friendships and contacts they made top their list of best aspects of the program. There will always be opportunities for interaction whether it is a pick-up game in the quad, a late-night discussion of the most recent guest lecture, or a group taking advantage of the many restaurants and bars on M Street in Georgetown.
Social Activities
Institute participants can look forward to certain all-institute social activities, such as a major league baseball game, a barbecue with alumni and canoeing on the Potomac.
Special Events
Institute-specific events include the annual Congressional Scholarship Award Dinner to honor a U.S. Senator, group lunches, or post-class happy hours or pizza parties.
There are more than 350 participants among the four summer institutes hosted by The Fund for American Studies at Georgetown University. As a result, students have the advantage to an instant social network of hundreds of undergraduates from all over the country.
“Not only have I learned a lot in an educational sense, but I have also picked up on the professionalism that one must obtain to become successful in the real world. To me, this is one of the biggest advantages of my internship, because proper etiquette is not something that can be taught in the classroom, but rather it is something learned by exposure and direct involvement.”
